📍trailhead

On the way to Tongyeong is a small island off of Geoje called Gajodo. If you’re anything like me, you’ve probably noticed the mountain on the northern side of the island off in the distance. This is Oknyeobong…yes, yet another Oknyeobong on Geoje! For clarifications sake, I’ll call this Oknyebong #2.

Sidenote: These are the other Oknyeobongs in Geoje.

Take the red bridge to Gajodo and head for the trailhead.

There is a great cafe at the trailhead where you can stop to fuel up with a nice lunch or just grab a coffee before starting your hike. Voliere (볼리에르) has a nice looking menu and I thoroughly enjoyed my pre-hike lunch when I went.

Not sponsored…just yummy!

The trail starts off next to a rocky wall across from the cafe and then veers to the left.

It’s a relatively short climb to the top. Along the way, you will cross over a mountain access road and can take a little break on the wooden platform perched above.

From here, the trail will steepen but it won't be too long to get to the top. Every time I’ve hiked up this mountain, I’ve been lucky to see plenty of goats, including a bunch of lil’ ones during my very first hike here!

Wait for the babies at the end of the video below!

Nearer to the top, there is a goat path (as will be obvious by the amount of poo on it) that leads to a relatively open view of Gajodo below. This was where the cover photo was taken from. If you choose to follow the goat path, be very careful as it’s quite steep and can be slippery with poo. Obviously if there are any goats on or near it, I wouldn’t attempt to join them. This path is not officially part of the trail, but can be found if you keep your eye open for a yellow marker hanging above and continue straight as the actual trail turns right.

Once at the top of the mountain, there will be a wooden gazebo with a sign to keep the gate closed so the goats don’t go inside and have a poo party. So make sure you close the gate when leaving. ^^
