So, this isn’t technically a hike. Rather it’s a 5 minute walk on a forest trail to reach the Gucheon Dam Look-Off. But, I still wanted to share it here for those who want something easier or kid friendly that still has a nice reward in the view.

I was told by a co-worker that this trail previously was technically an unauthorized trail and that there used to be signs up telling people not to go there. Wanting to feel like a bit of an “outlaw”, of course I checked it out.

When I first visited in September of 2019, I found that it is now fully legal to go there and that “they” have installed glass fences at the end of the trail for safety. It’s a great time to visit, especially in fall when the colors are changing. The trailhead is on a bit of a blind turn, so depending on which direction you are coming from, you’ll likely have to bypass it and turn around later down the road.

After 5 minutes you can expect a nice view of the Gucheon Dam and a good spot for pictures. If you’re lucky, you may even bump into a professional photographer like we did, who kindly took some photos for us. ;)
