It’s the first official day of summer vacation 2021 and Andrew and I decided to stay close to home this year, but still try to fill our days as though we were “vacationers” nonetheless.
So to kick off our vacation, we decided to head back to Woojebong. We hadn’t hiked here in several years and thought it was the perfect short hike that would give me a taste of hiking, but keep Andrew from getting bored with a long hike.
Woojebong is just past Windy Hill and has got really great views of Haegeumgang. It’s also a short and relatively easy hike, so perfect for people visiting Geoje who don’t want to invest an entire day hiking but still want to see a nice view.
To start, cross the parking lot heading towards the right side.
The trail starts with a bit of an incline, but is still relatively easy. You’ll get a nice view looking out to the sea along the way.
After roughly one kilometer, you’ll reach a fork. Continue on to the right hand side to reach the observatory platforms, you’ll later return here and follow the trail in the opposite direction towards the hermitage.
Just a few minutes later, you’ll reach another fork, continue towards the right. You’ll end up looping back on the left.
Just a few more steps and you’ll have reached the main observatory areas. You can follow the wooden stairs on the right hand side to go get a nice vantage point of the area.
Then head back to the main platform where you’ll get great views all around!
You can use the built in binoculars to either look to the south, or watch the jetboats and ferries pass by the Geoje-famous Haegeumgan Island.
From here, continue straight to the end of the platform past the butterfly picture frame
You’ll return back to the previous fork and can continue straight. In a few more minutes, you’ll reach the next fork that you had already passed before. This time head right in the direction of the hermitage (서장암 ).
It won’t be long before you pass the hermitage.
Soon after you’ll emerge on the roadway to head back to the parking lot where there are several restaurants and of course a convenience store to cap off your hike with refreshments.
Thanks for another great day together, Andrew!
